Three tasks that sound alike
Loading line is not the same as advancing it.
“Feed,” “auto-feed,” and branded names can refer to different parts of the job. First identify what you are trying to do; then match the exact trimmer model, installed head, and manual.
Which task are you trying to solve?
Load fresh line
Put new line into a spool or head. The loading path depends on the installed head; a “quick-load” or branded head name does not establish the right line size or procedure.
Advance line during trimming
Release more line while working. Some systems advance automatically; others use a bump-feed mechanism or a separate control. Check the exact model and manual before trying an action.
Replace a spool or complete head
A loose-line diameter does not identify a compatible prewound spool or complete head. Use the exact tool product number and head assembly in the parts lookup.

Greenworks ST60L254 and ST60L413 · US product listings
Greenworks labels these supported records “LOAD N’ GO Bump Feed.” The listing combines the branded head name with the feed type. Greenworks’ FAQ describes auto-feed and bump-feed as different ways line is released; a forum post calling a machine “auto-feed” is not enough to identify its mechanism.
That label does not give you a universal reload sequence. For fresh line, open the official page for the exact model and use the owner’s manual linked there. The ST60L254 record is limited to product SKU 2122802; ST60L413 is limited to SKU 2121002.

EGO ST1520 and ST1520S · North American POWERLOAD head
For these exact models, the V5 manual separates winding new line with the POWERLOAD button from bump-feed line advancement during use. It gives model-specific instructions and warnings; use the manual for the complete procedure. Do not extend this behavior to EGO LineIQ or other POWERLOAD models.

RYOBI PCLST01B · US and Canada
RYOBI’s US and Canadian product pages identify the PCLST01B with an auto-feed head. The related trilingual PCLST01 manual says not to bump the head to release line: bumping can damage the trimmer and void the warranty. For the original head and a matching manual, it describes releasing the trigger, waiting two seconds for the head to stop, then pressing the trigger again; each stop/start advances about 1/2 inch. Use the exact manual for reloading or manual advance, and do not apply this note to another Ryobi model or an aftermarket head.

If the label or head is unclear
Start with the tool’s full product label, not its battery, line color, or a forum description. Identify the installed head using the exact manual or parts diagram. If the model, head, or manual revision does not match a source-backed record, keep the fitment unresolved and contact the manufacturer.
Stop if a part is cracked, loose, or will not lock as the manual requires. Do not run the trimmer with an open head, removed guard, or an improvised repair.
The Greenworks product pages and EGO V5 manual were checked October 20, 2026. Greenworks live product pages did not display a publication date. The Reddit post displayed a relative timestamp when checked; its exact original model is unknown.
