ECHO SRM models with a Speed-Feed 400 head
ECHO's US accessory page lists the Speed-Feed 400 for the exact SRM models below. Check the tool label and the head actually installed; a factory-head record cannot establish that an aftermarket head fits.

What the sources confirm
| Evidence | Published detail | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Speed-Feed 400 head page | Lists the models above; part 99944200907; tap-to-advance; preloaded .095-inch line; accepts up to 20 ft of .095-inch line; maximum head diameter .105 inch. | The source says the head fits all ECHO SRM models and is standard on the eight named here. The .105-inch figure is a head maximum, not a selected recommendation. Confirm the applicable operator manual. |
| SRM-225 model specification | Names a Speed-Feed 400 LH nylon line head with 6.0 m (20 ft) capacity. | This model specification is for SRM-225 only. ECHO operator manuals vary by serial range. |
Line capacity is the amount held by the head, not the diameter. ECHO lists part 99944200907 as a Speed-Feed 400 line-head accessory; this is a head, not a spool-only part. This page does not diagnose line that shortens, retracts, fails to advance, or jams.
If line retracts or gets shorter after tapping
What owners report: two individual SRM-225 discussions mention line shortening or feed/reload trouble. They do not establish a cause, a successful repair, or prevalence. Read the line-shortening report ↗ · Read the separate reload/feed report ↗
What ECHO's instructions support
- Match the complete SRM-225 model label, installed Speed-Feed 400 LH, and manual for the tool's serial range before using a procedure.
- ECHO's nylon-line replacement guide lists 20 ft of .080- or .095-inch line for its illustrated Speed-Feed procedure. It says to align the arrows with the eyelets, pass equal lengths through, and turn the knob clockwise until about 5 inches remain exposed. The current accessory page lists .095-inch preloaded line and up to 20 ft capacity; .105 inch is a head maximum only.
- Follow ECHO's precautions: switch off and use the manual's shutdown steps before handling the head. ECHO warns that the cutoff knife is sharp and the gearcase may be hot; wear gloves as directed.
- ECHO says the cover or entire head needs replacement if the wear indicators are smooth or holes appear. This does not identify the cause of other feed symptoms.
If the line still retracts or will not advance after the documented reload, the reviewed manufacturer sources do not diagnose why. Do not infer a failed spring or mechanism, or keep forcing/tapping the head; contact an authorized ECHO dealer or service provider.

All records on this page use US manufacturer sources. The model, region, installed head, and manual/serial range must match. The catalog checks compatibility evidence; it does not confirm current availability, a replacement part, or the cause of a feed symptom.
